First Friday Art Exhibit "Greenville Views" by local artist Vladimir Demidovich
The impressionistic landscapes, portraits, and still-lifes of Vladimir Demidovich are studies of color and light. Strongly influenced by his travels and the collections of the Louvre and Hermitage Museums, Demidovich often uses photographs as the basis for his paintings. It is through his application of color, however, that Demidovich "rebrands" the photographs into something that delights his viewers and brings beauty into the everyday world. Demidovich's favored mediums are oils, pastels, and charcoal, similar to his influences, Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet.
As a resident of Kyrgyzstan, Demidovich worked on public art projects where he created mosaics, commercial posters, and other decorative art works. You can still see his artistic history in his work today: brush strokes are often square or rectangular, almost tile-like, and arranged in kaleidoscopic patterns. There is also a definite graphic sensibility to his compositions, which modernizes and separates his work from the Impressionists of the nineteenth century. Demidovich hopes his work will touch people through an evocation of landscape or a personal memory. He currently resides in the United States,Greenville,SC.In September 2015 he had exhibited in Agora Gallery,New York
